Connecticut Woman, 78, Killed in Three-Car crash on Interstate 95 South

Stonington, Connecticut – A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday when a 78-year-old Connecticut woman lost her life in a devastating three-car crash that resulted in the closure of Interstate 95 South for several hours.

The victim has been identified as Barbara Dyer, a resident of North Franklin. According to state police, Dyer was rushed to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London immediately after the accident. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

The collision occurred just before noon as Dyer was caught in heavy traffic congestion along the north side of the highway, between exits 91 and 92. Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that Dyer was driving a Honda Civic in the left lane, coming to a stop behind a pick-up truck driven by Jeffrey White, 62, a resident of Westerly.

Joseph M. Teixeira, a 22-year-old driver from East Providence, was behind the wheel of a Mazda CX-5 that struck the rear of Dyer’s vehicle, forcefully propelling her into the pick-up truck before her car veered off the highway and landed in a ditch. Emergency responders from the Wequetequock, Quiambaug, and Pawcatuck fire departments, as well as personnel from the Westerly Ambulance Corps, promptly arrived at the scene.

The authorities had initially called for the Life Star helicopter, but the request was later canceled. Dyer was then transported by ambulance to the hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead.

Fortunately, Jeffrey White emerged from the incident unscathed.

Traffic was redirected off Exit 91 to allow the Connecticut State Police Accident Reconstruction Team to investigate the crash thoroughly. As a result, the affected stretch of the highway remained closed for several hours, causing significant delays for motorists.
