by 27-Year-Old Woman Charged with Murder in Santa Monica Shooting
According to police reports, a 27-year-old woman has been charged with murder in a fatal shooting that happened in Santa Monica last week. The following day in West Los Angeles, the suspect, identified as Kayla Delise Mackie, was captured and placed under arrest.
William Edwards III, 46, of Los Angeles, was discovered inside his parked car on January 25 in critical condition following reports of gunfire. Despite being taken to the hospital immediately, Edwards tragically passed away from his wounds.
Further investigation revealed that Mackie, who is currently experiencing homelessness, may be responsible for additional crimes in Los Angeles, including an armed robbery and an attempted homicide. The Santa Monica Police Department posted a news release on X (formerly Twitter) detailing these additional charges.
Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting, which Santa Monica Mayor Phil Brock described as “senseless.” This tragic event has shocked and devastated the community, and Mayor Brock has sent his condolences to William Edwards’ friends and family.
The District Attorney has filed a murder charge against Mackie for the Santa Monica homicide, as well as additional charges related to the other incidents. The Santa Monica Police Department expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance locating and identifying the suspect, emphasising the importance of witness descriptions in the investigation.
