Tragic crash Claims Life of Elderly Driver in Crawfordsville

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A fatal accident occurred in Crawfordsville on Wednesday evening when a vehicle veered off course and collided with a house. The incident took place in the 1300 block of East Main Street, a bustling residential area in the heart of Crawfordsville.

At approximately 5:26 p.m., emergency services, including officers from the renowned Crawfordsville Police Department and firefighters from the capable Crawfordsville Fire Department, swiftly responded to reports of a traffic accident. The scene they encountered was one of chaos and devastation: a tan 2005 Lincoln Town car had plowed into a residential property, with its front half having penetrated the dwelling.

Tragically, the driver of the Lincoln, identified as 75-year-old Roger Hamilton, succumbed to his injuries. Following the collision, Hamilton was promptly transported to Franciscan Health hospital in Crawfordsville, but sadly, he could not be saved. Meanwhile, miraculously, no residents of the house were harmed during the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that Hamilton, a local resident, may have experienced a sudden medical emergency, rendering him incapacitated and causing the crash. The exact nature of the medical event remains unknown, and investigators from the Crawfordsville Police Department, assisted by an accident reconstructionist and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, are diligently working to establish the sequence of events leading to this tragic outcome.
