When it comes to running an online store on Shopify, customization is key. You want your store to stand out from the crowd and reflect your unique brand identity. One common customization that many store owners want to make is removing the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text that appears in the footer. In this article, we’ll show you how to do just that, allowing you to truly make your store your own.
Step 1: Access Your Shopify Admin Dashboard
To begin customizing your Shopify store, you’ll need to access your admin dashboard. This is where you can manage all aspects of your store, from products and inventory to design and settings. Simply log in to your Shopify account and you’ll be taken to the admin dashboard.
Step 2: Navigate to the ‘Themes’ Section
Once you’re in the admin dashboard, look for the ‘Online Store’ tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on it and then select ‘Themes’ from the dropdown menu. This will take you to the themes section, where you can manage and customize the appearance of your store.
Step 3: Edit Your Theme
In the themes section, you’ll see a list of all the themes currently installed on your Shopify store. Find the theme you want to edit and click on the ‘Actions’ button next to it. From the dropdown menu, select ‘Edit code’. This will open up the code editor, allowing you to make changes to your theme’s code.
Step 4: Locate the Footer Section
Once you’re in the code editor, you’ll see a list of files on the left-hand side. Look for the file named ‘theme.liquid’ and click on it. This file contains the code for your theme’s layout. Scroll through the code until you find the footer section.
Step 5: Remove the ‘Powered by Shopify’ Text
Within the footer section, you’ll likely see a line of code that includes the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text. To remove this text, simply delete the line of code or comment it out by adding after the line. Make sure to save your changes by clicking on the ‘Save’ button at the top of the code editor.
Step 6: Preview and Publish Your Changes
With the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text removed, it’s time to preview your changes and make sure everything looks as expected. To do this, click on the ‘Preview’ button in the top right corner of the code editor. This will open a new tab where you can see how your store will appear to customers.
If you’re happy with the changes, click on the ‘Publish’ button to make them live on your store. Congratulations, you’ve successfully removed the ‘Powered by Shopify’ text and made your store truly yours!
