In a heartbreaking incident that took place in East Los Angeles, a mother was apprehended on Friday under suspicion of causing her 4-year-old daughter’s untimely demise. The authorities identified the woman as Maria Avalos, aged 38.
Response from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies promptly responded to the distress call, which led them to a business parking lot on Civic Center Way, in the 4800 block. The incident occurred late on Thursday night.
A Glimpse into the Life of the Victim
The victim was a 4-year-old girl, named Mia Gonzalez. Little Mia was discovered inside the vehicle, unresponsive. Despite the immediate transportation to a local hospital, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Mia, who had her entire life ahead of her, is mourned by those who knew her.
Charges Against Maria Avalos
Mia’s mother, Maria Avalos, was also present in the vehicle. The authorities detained her at the scene. Suspected of murder, she was subsequently taken into custody.
Findings from the Autopsy Report
The Los Angeles County autopsy report, released on Saturday, confirmed that Mia’s death was indeed a homicide. The cause of death was declared to be the combined effects of strangulation and sharp force, according to the report.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The case is set to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review on Tuesday, January 30th. Legal proceedings are expected to commence shortly thereafter.
